Save our 71 bus service

It is understood that Stagecoach is intending to review the 71 bus service, putting this essential service, that provides residents with a vital connection between Guildford, Godalming, Milford, Witley, Chiddingfold and Haslemere, under threat.
With residents concerned that the service may start terminating at Chiddingfold, rather than going on to Haslemere and Woolmer Hill, the Liberal Democrats are calling on Stagecoach and Conservative-run Surrey County Council to work together to ensure that the service is maintained across the entirety of its route, at its current regularity.
Dave Busby, Lib Dem Waverley Borough Councillor for Chiddingfold, said: "This service provides a vital lifeline to many residents, particular those in our rural villages. It's imperative that it is maintained.
"As well as serving Woolmer Hill School, residents rely on the 71 bus to travel to work, medical appointments, shops and services, and to visit family and friends."
Paul Follows, Lib Dem County Councillor for Godalming, Milford & Witley, added: “The bus network is a sustainable and affordable means of transport. At a time of great concern about the environment and with many local families struggling to make ends meet, it must be protected and expanded, not reduced.”
