Godalming's new Youth Service branded the “best thing going on in my life”
Since the Lib Dem-led launch of the new Godalming Youth Service at Broadwater Park Community Centre in April, the centre has gone from strength to strength with high footfall. In the first month alone, it’s seen upwards of 1,000 session attendances.
Approximately 300 different young people have used the centre since its opening with some drop-in sessions reaching 60 attendees and an average of 20-40 members.
A fantastic team of paid and voluntary youth workers provide dedicated evening group sessions including a Girls’ Group, Year 10+ Night, My Unique Individuality, Juniors’ Night and Boys’ Group as well as various drop-in sessions themed with a different daily activity.
Lib Dem Cllr Adam Duce, Chair of the Youth Management Group, commented, “I’m immensely proud of the support that our Youth Services team have been able to offer young people in the town.”
Cllr Michael Stubbs (pictured) added, “If there were any evidence required to show the need for such a service in the town, the very high attendance figures say it all.”
Positive feedback has come from a number of sources - Broadwater School stated the work of the service was “valuable”. The impact on individuals is also seen as very positive with two of the many participants described the centre as “amazing” and having “never felt so included”, while another comments that “it’s the best thing going on in my life”.
