Lloyds Banking Group has announced plans to close 136 additional UK high street branches, including the Lloyds branch at 49 High Street, Godalming, Surrey GU7 1AT. This decision is part of a broader strategy to reduce the bank’s physical presence by 15%, citing decreased customer usage and a significant drop in on-site transactions as reasons for the closures.

In response to the planned closure, Councillor Paul Follows, the Liberal Democrat leader of Waverley Borough Council, has successfully secured a meeting with Lloyds to discuss future plans and explore the possibility of establishing a banking hub in Godalming. This initiative aims to ensure continued access to essential banking services for local residents.

Banking hubs, like the one in Haslemere, offer shared facilities where customers of various banks can conduct everyday transactions, such as cash deposits and withdrawals, balance inquiries, and bill payments. These hubs are designed to support communities affected by bank branch closures, ensuring that essential banking services remain accessible.

To assess the community’s interest in a banking hub in Godalming, we encourage residents to participate in a brief survey. Your feedback is invaluable in understanding the community’s needs and will play a crucial role in discussions with Lloyds.

Your input will help shape the future of banking services in our community.

Please take a moment to share your thoughts and contribute to maintaining accessible banking in Godalming by completing our survey.
