Our Cranleigh East team

Ken, Ruth and Philip are standing for election on Thursday 4th May as they want to keep delivering for residents, helping with issues and being your representatives at Waverley Borough Council.

All of our candidates are standing behind our Building Opportunity manifesto to deliver better public services, quality social housing and investment into our high streets and training.

Ruth Reed

Ruth Reed is standing for re-election to Waverley Borough Council this May.

Ruth’s work as a councillor puts people first, sourcing funding for Cranleigh Food Bank and joining the council’s Cost of Living Action Group.

A keen interest in our natural environment has led her to get involved with the Surrey Hills Society, Surrey Hills AONB and join the Green Liberal Democrats. Ruth has also helped steer Waverley's climate change policies to protect our area and planet.

Recently, she has been working to see that Cranleigh’s new leisure facilities both have a lower impact on our environment and deliver better, modern facilities for residents.

Philip Townsend

Philip is standing for re-election to Waverley Borough Council, after a successful by-election in 2021.

A Cranleigh resident for over 30 years and now owning a small gardening business, Philip has volunteered around the village, including as a coach at Cranleigh football and rugby clubs, supported our vulnerable at Cranleigh foodbank, and through Covid was a Street Champion. He continues to be a lead volunteer at the Beryl Harvey Conservation field.

Since being elected, Philip has been assisting residents in getting solutions to their issues - including with Thames Water, British Telecom, Surrey Highways, Planning Enforcement, and Environmental Health.

If re-elected, he pledges to continue his work listening to residents to provide them a voice at the table.

Ken Reed

Ken is standing for election to Waverley Borough Council in May, where he will bring his past experience as a councillor for Cranleigh.

Immediately prior to his retirement, Ken was a director of an International IT and Business Consultancy, having spent the early and middle of his working life in aerospace and defence industries.

Ken has always taken an active part in the local community having served as both a Cranleigh Parish for 11 years, and Waverley Borough Councillor for 7 years. During his time as a councillor, Ken focussed on enhancing the services and facilities in the village and has worked to ensure the development of safe and sustainable communities for both young and old.

If re-elected to Waverley he will continue to ensure that the needs of Cranleigh’s Council Tax payers are addressed and that they get value for money from the Borough Council.
