Our Haslemere East & South team

Our Lib Dem Haslemere team are standing for election on Thursday 4th May for Waverley Borough and Haslemere Town Councils this May, and hope you'll back them to give Haslemere residents a strong voice at our local councils.

At these elections, Haslemere East is one ward at Waverley Borough Council, but is split into North and South at the Town Council. The South ward is the area south of the railway and Highercombe Road.

All of our candidates are standing behind our Building Opportunity manifesto to deliver better public services, quality social housing and investment into our high streets and training.

Peter Nicholson

Peter is standing for re-election to Waverley Borough Council in May in Haslemere East.

Peter is married and has lived in Haslemere almost 40 years. Now retired, his work had been in scientific, capital projects planning and marketing.

He is currently a Waverley Borough and Haslemere Town councillor and if re-elected, will continue to support increased provision of social housing for rent, using existing council owned land throughout the Borough.

Peter is a strong supporter of the Haslemere Neighbourhood plan with the proviso that all developments must have acceptable fresh water and sewerage facilities. He will continue to campaign for a further mid-evening number 19 bus which travels the length of the Town and support the ban on heavy vehicles to protect Lion Green in winter.

Terry Weldon

Terry is standing for election to Waverley Borough Council this May in Haslemere East.

Originally from South Africa, where for many years he was an anti-apartheid campaigner, Terry is now a British citizen and has lived in the UK since 2003 (and in Haslemere since 2006).

Following a career in market research and later in education, Terry is now semi-retired, and works part-time delivering medicines for a local pharmacy, which has given him an acute awareness of the difficulties faced by some of the elderly and vulnerable people in our community. As a long-term rare cancer patient, he is a trustee for GISTCancerUK, and also a consumer representative with the NCRI Sarcoma Clinical Unit.

Terry has been a Haslemere town councillor since 2019, serving on the Climate and Biodiversity Emergency, Finance and Governance, and Planning committees - since 2022 as chair of the latter.

Farzana Aslam

Farzana is standing for election to Haslemere Town Council.

Farzana is a qualified barrister, holding degrees from LSE and Oxford. She previously taught at the University of Hong Kong and is now a Director of a management consultancy, focusing on equality and diversity, and a Board member of a fintech company.

In Haslemere, Farzana is known for being a Board member of Haslemere Vision and now campaigns via the Haslemere Health Transformation Group to enhance Haslemere Hospital.

On the council, she would work to support sustainability and health initiatives. Farzana is an enthusiastic supporter of Haslemere Cricket Club where she can often be found serving burgers to hungry kids!

Lesley Banfield

Lesley is standing for election to Haslemere Town Council.

A resident in Haslemere for 22 years, Lesley has undertaken extensive voluntary community work including as joint-founder and present chair of Haslemere Vision (that prepared Haslemere’s Neighbourhood Plan), co-founder of Haslemere Fringe Festival & past Arts Director, member of the working group that prepared the Haslemere Design Statement and presently a member of Haslemere Biodiversity Group.

A qualified and experienced urban designer/architect/project manager, she is now a consultant with 35 years’ business experience working on partnerships/schemes with Councils, Government and private sector for regeneration, housing and sustainability.

Lesley is passionate to support and advocate for Haslemere, its community, future prosperity and wellbeing.

Bryan Carroll

Bryan is standing for election to Haslemere Town Council.

Bryan brings more than ten years experience as an IT executive representing people and small businesses at companies like Google and Etsy. He will bring this experience to the Town Council to ensure residents' needs are addressed.

His priorities will be lobbying to improve the condition of our roads, working with the Chamber of Commerce and local business owners to understand and resolve their challenges, and long-term planning to improve the quality of life in Haslemere.

After choosing with his wife to raise their child here in 2020, Bryan is very motivated to make their new home as safe, enjoyable, and vibrant as possible.
