Our Haslemere West team
John, Jacquie and Peter are standing for re-election on Thursday 4th May for Waverley Borough and Haslemere Town Councils this May. They hope residents will back them to continue their hard work for our town, ensuring our communities receive the support they need, and their work helping residents.
All of our candidates are standing behind our Building Opportunity manifesto to deliver better public services, quality social housing and investment into our high streets and training.
Jacquie Keen
Jacquie Keen is standing for re-election to Waverley Borough Council and Haslemere Town Council this May.
Jacquie, who is married to John Robini, has lived in Haslemere all her life. She was a night nurse for 35 years, including at Milford Hospital where she was on the League of Friends for 16 years.
She has been Mayor of both Haslemere and Waverley and has been awarded the MBE for community work. At Waverley Borough Council, Jacquie's work has included on the landlord board, along with members of the tenants panel, where she's been able to help with tenants’ needs and home improvements.
She has supported ‘A place to be’ which provides a Friday night youth club and, also, has campaigned successfully for new play equipment for children with disabilities and special needs.
Jacquie is always focussed on improving what our local councils can do to support young people, and if re-elected, will fight for better provision particularly for young people, and will continue supporting and helping residents.
John Robini
John is standing for re-election to Waverley Borough Council and Haslemere Town Council.
John worked for Surrey Police for over 40 years, leading partnership projects, crime reduction and with a strong interest in community affairs. He has long experience in local government as a town, borough and county councillor and Mayor for both Haslemere and Waverley. As county councillor, he is constantly fighting for better funding to tackle potholes!
He is especially passionate about providing social and affordable housing, prioritising building on brownfield sites, and ensuring local views are listened to in local planning matters. He has led the efforts to have our Neighbourhood Plan approved and passed for adoption, to ensure these views are heard.
John supports the ‘green emergency’, as we need to change our way of life to protect the future. He believes the elderly, vulnerable, and young people need support and a voice. If re-elected, John will work for all those groups in our town.
Peter Nicholson
Peter is standing for re-election to Haslemere Town Council in May in Haslemere West.
Peter is married and has lived in Haslemere almost 40 years. Now retired, his work had been in scientific, capital projects planning and marketing.
He is currently a Waverley Borough and Haslemere Town councillor and if re-elected, will continue to support increased provision of social housing for rent, using existing council owned land throughout the Borough.
Peter is a strong supporter of the Haslemere Neighbourhood plan with the proviso that all developments must have acceptable fresh water and sewerage facilities. He will continue to campaign for a further mid-evening number 19 bus which travels the length of the Town and support the ban on heavy vehicles to protect Lion Green in winter.
